Thad Mistakes The Two Moons of Rehnor eBook J Naomi Ay

Written in a 1950s style that is stale and illogical.
And how's this for not understanding the meaning of the word "indigenous" (the way she uses it also borders on racism) or the concept of evolution!

"No, they have devolved. When they arrived on the planet with their limited population, they were unable to replicate the microchips and even things like batteries once those they had on board their crafts expired. They were forced to live off the land, to become an indigenous people."
"Perhaps they have re-evolved?" I suggested.

Thad Mistakes The Two Moons of Rehnor eBook J Naomi Ay Reviews

I truly enjoyed reading Thad's Mistake. Being unfamiliar with J. Naomi Ay's previous books, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease and flow of her style. This is a Novella Collection featuring Thad's Mistake and a preview of My Enemy's Son, The Two Moons of Rehnor Book 2.

Thad's Mistake is narrated by Thad, the son of a Spaceforce starship captain named Tim Mattson and his wife, Shelly. Thad's voice is natural and his description of his marriage to a spoiled "drama queen" named Leslie made me cringe because I've been to weddings like this. Thad's first mistake is his marriage, an event brought about by an unplanned pregnancy.

Skipping ahead four years, we find Thad, a success at his job but a failure at everything else, at a shopping mall with his young son and pregnant wife. As he's watching his son, he meets the lovely Ensign Katie Golden, a member of Spaceforce who knows of Thad's father. While Thad is attracted to Ensign Golden, she isn't so taken with him. It is here that we are introduced to an alien species called the Rogarians, or Big Heads, who have been accorded a kind of diplomatic status on Earth. As this is a novella, I don't want to give too much away. The story was fun to read and I found myself wanting to find out more about this strange universe wherein Earthlings and aliens mix on a regular basis.

In the preview of My Enemy's Son, we again meet Shelly and Tim Mattson, Thad's parents. Shelly is the narrator. This book, while it isn't exactly a prequel, the story does take place before the end of Thad's Mistake, while Shelly and Tim, who is now an admiral, are living on a planet called Rozari. Rozari's red dust is the result of a nuclear winter brought about by events that transpired a thousand years ago. Rozari is now radiation-free, and the perks being offered to those willing to live there are too good to pass up.

Shelly works as an anthropologist at the Rozarian Science Institute with Rozarian anthropologist named Dr. Kenak. One day an old friend of Dr. Kenak's, medical doctor Donak, comes to them and says a strange man has been brought to the ER. By the amount of drugs in his system, the doctors conclude he is a drug addict, but as we are introduced to this strange young man, it becomes apparent that he is much, much more. By the end of the preview, I was hooked. I wanted to know more about this young man, where he came from, and why. J. Naomi Ay is a good storyteller and I highly recommend Thad's Mistake.
As the first review did such an excellent job telling us about the book, I will focus on how much fun it was to read. This book drew me in right away and moved at a quick pace. I became so engrossed in the story and the characters that I could not put it down until I finished reading. It's been quite a while since an author made me say, I want to read more of their writing, but this author has done that. The writing flowed.
